It is multithreaded, plugin-based, has a nice GTK interface, and currently performs over 340 remote security checks. It has powerful reporting capabilities (HTML, LaTeX, ASCII text) and not only points out problems, but suggests a solution for each of them.

Changes: Updated the FTP checks, better handling of targets with multiple web servers running, added checks for unpassworded MySQLs and PostgreSQL databases, experimental crash recovery, and bug fixes.

nstreams-1.0.0.tar.gz
Posted Nov 12, 1999
Authored by Renaud Deraison | Site hsc.fr

nstreams is a program that analyzes the networks streams occuring on a network and prints them in a human readable form. This is useful when you want to set up a firewall but do not know your needs/the needs of your customers. nstreams can read tcpdump output files or directly listen on a given interface, and may even produce ipchains (Linux) or ipfw (BSD) firewall rules instead of printing the streams, letting you build your firewall automagically.

nessus-alpha2-fix4.tgz
Posted Aug 17, 1999
Authored by Renaud Deraison

Nessus alpha2-fix4 is a free, easy-to-use and open-sourced remote security scanner, distributed under the GPL, such as SATAN. Every security check is coded as an external plugin, thus making the product easier to upgrade / maintain / modify for your needs. Also, Nessus is made up of a client and a server. The server is in charge of the attacks, and the client is the frontend which is used to configure the tests and analyze the results. This release (which is called alpha2 and not beta1 or 1.0 because a lot of features are still to be added) is stable and usable by everyone -- not just geeks or hackers (in the open-source meaning of the term of course). New Features: Intelligent remote service detection, Up-to-date vulnerability database (208 checks currently), Advanced portscanning facilities, Advanced security between the client and the server, Advanced and documented plugins API, More portable (all major BSD flavors, Linux, some flavors of Solaris, IRIX and even SCO), Now supports CIDR addresses. Requires gtk+.

Changes: Many bug fixes (segmentation faults corrected), performance improvements and a lot of other minor changes.
