Overview

Mozilla developers Kershaw Chang, Ryan VanderMeulen, and Randell Jesup reported memory safety bugs present in Firefox 97. Some of these bugs showed evidence of memory corruption and we presume that with enough effort some of these could have been exploited to run arbitrary code. This vulnerability affects Firefox < 98.

Ubuntu Security Notice 5321-2 - USN-5321-1 fixed vulnerabilities in Firefox. The update didn't include arm64 because of a regression. This update provides the corresponding update for arm64. This update also removes Yandex and Mail.ru as optional search providers in the drop-down search menu.

Ubuntu Security Notice 5321-1 - Multiple security issues were discovered in Firefox. If a user were tricked into opening a specially crafted website, an attacker could potentially exploit these to cause a denial of service, spoof the browser UI, bypass security restrictions, obtain sensitive information, or execute arbitrary code. A TOCTOU bug was discovered when verifying addon signatures during install. A local attacker could potentially exploit this to trick a user into installing an addon with an invalid signature.
