A security issue affects these releases of Ubuntu and its derivatives:
- Ubuntu 16.04 LTS
Summary:
bsdiff could be made to crash or run programs as your login if it
opened a specially crafted file.
Software Description:
- bsdiff: generate/apply a patch between two binary files
Details:
It was discovered that bsdiff mishandled certain input. If a user were tricked
into opening a malicious file, an attacker could cause bsdiff to crash or
potentially execute arbitrary code.
Update instructions:
The problem can be corrected by updating your system to the following
package versions:
Ubuntu 16.04 LTS:
bsdiff 4.3-15+deb8u1build0.16.04.1
In general, a standard system update will make all the necessary changes.
