TITLE:
Phorum Cross-Site Scripting and Cross-Site Request Forgery
SECUNIA ADVISORY ID:
SA34651
VERIFY ADVISORY:
https://secunia.com/advisories/34651/
DESCRIPTION:
Some vulnerabilities have been discovered in Phorum, which can be
exploited by malicious people to conduct cross-site scripting and
cross-site request forgery attacks.
1) Input passed to the "curr" parameter in admin.php (when "module"
is set to "banlist" or "badwords") is not properly sanitised before
being returned to the user. This can be exploited to execute
arbitrary HTML or script code in a user's browser session in context
of an affected site.
2) Input passed via the "email" and the "referrer" parameter to
admin.php (when "module" is set to "users") is not properly sanitised
before being returned to the user in admin/include/users.php. This can
be exploited to execute arbitrary HTML and script code in a user's
browser session in context of an affected site.
3) The application allows users to perform certain actions via HTTP
requests without performing any validation checks to verify the
requests. This can be exploited to e.g. add user accounts when a
logged-in administrative user views a malicious web page.
4) Input passed via the "panel" parameter in control.php is not
properly sanitised before being returned to the user. This can be
exploited to execute arbitrary HTML or script code in a user's
browser session in context of an affected site.
The vulnerabilities are confirmed in version 5.2.10. Other versions
may also be affected.
SOLUTION:
Some of the vulnerabilities are fixed in the SVN repositories.
Edit the source code to ensure that input is properly sanitised. Do
not visit untrusted web sites or follow untrusted links while being
logged-in to the application.
